Support for the Agrihood Townhomes proposal

Dear City of Santa Clara Planning Commissioners,

I respectfully urge your approval of the Agrihood townhomes proposal on October 7. This decision is about whether the final phase of Agrihood moves forward now or whether the site’s last vacant parcel remains unfinished for years to come. After decades of planning, construction, and community investment, Santa Clara cannot afford to let this opportunity pass.

The Core Companies’ revised proposal is the best path to finally completing Agrihood and delivering the housing and community benefits that Santa Clara has been waiting more than 20 years to see fully realized. The townhomes will create new homeownership opportunities for families, young professionals, and longtime Santa Clarans while helping bring Agrihood’s vision of a thriving, multigenerational community to completion.

Just as importantly, the townhomes represent a housing proposal that is viable in today’s market. The previously approved apartment plan was conceived under very different economic conditions, and current market realities have made that project difficult to advance. Continuing to wait for the original plan to become feasible could leave the site vacant for years as Santa Clara’s housing needs continue to grow.

I urge you to recommend approval of Core’s updated proposal and help complete Agrihood’s final chapter for the benefit of the Santa Clara community.
