Explore Agrihood

Agrihood is more than a development — it’s a vision of community that has taken shape through years of input from Santa Clarans, city leaders, and neighbors. From the beginning, the goal was clear: create a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and incomes can live side by side, surrounded by open space and rooted in Santa Clara’s agricultural past.

Agrihood’s Progress So Far

In 2023, The Core Companies marked a major milestone toward the Agrihood vision: the opening of 165 affordable homes for seniors, including permanent supportive housing, with priority for veterans and car-free households. This also helped realize one of Agrihood’s key goals — opening 1.5 acres of open space that promotes physical and mental well-being for residents and neighbors, including a first-of-its-kind urban farm in Santa Clara that provides fresh produce to low-income seniors.

The community continues to grow. A locally owned coffee shop is now open on-site, with lines out the door each morning — a sign of Agrihood’s spirit coming to life.

Updating the Plan, Staying True to the Vision

An empty lot remains in the center of Agrihood, waiting for more housing. Like many pre-pandemic projects, rising interest rates, construction costs, and operating expenses have forced the project team to rethink the 160 market-rate rental units originally planned to fill the site.

To keep the vision of Agrihood alive and avoid leaving the site vacant for years to come, The Core Companies is proposing a revised plan: 44 for-sale townhomes—offering attainable homeownership opportunities for younger or mid-career couples and families who want to build a life in Santa Clara.

A Stronger Community for Years to Come

This isn’t a change we’ve made lightly. The townhomes maintain the original design aesthetic quality and uphold the promise of permanent open space, urban agriculture, and connection. They provide a pathway to ownership, strengthen our multigenerational community, and ensure that Agrihood continues to reflect Santa Clara’s values: innovation, sustainability, and inclusion.

The City Council supported this vision over a decade ago by selecting Core’s proposal. With this updated plan, we’re ready to bring Agrihood fully to life.
